The SMB and entry-level freelance web development market — estimated to represent 40–60% of total web developer employment by volume — is being structurally eliminated by AI-enhanced no-code platforms. Wix ADI has been building AI-generated websites since 2016; its current iteration generates fully functional, mobile-responsive sites from a business description in minutes. Squarespace AI Copywriter, Framer's AI site builder, Webflow AI, and Bolt.new collectively cover the full range of SMB website needs without developer involvement. The key shift is that these platforms now produce output of sufficient quality that the SMB client — previously the primary entry-level market for web developers — cannot distinguish AI-built from developer-built at the price points they are willing to pay.
